Lisa A. Bresley is a Vandenack Weaver LLC Paralegal, and Board Member of HEALing Embrace, which is a Nebraska non-profit charity that works to Help Everyone After Loss (HEAL), raise awareness and provide support to families who experience pregnancy and infant loss. Lisa, HEALing Embrace, and many others worked hard to create, give testimony on behalf of, and bring to fruition a first of its kind Bill (LB1040) to the Nebraska Legislature. On April 17, 2018, this life-affirming Bill was signed into law providing for women and families in Nebraska to receive a state-issued Commemorative Birth Certificate for babies lost prior to 20 weeks gestation, regardless of whether born still or miscarried. This Law is retroactive and requires no minimum gestation to qualify for the Certificate. This Law makes Nebraska an innovative leader in supporting grieving families while recognizing the dignity and humanity of our unborn children, regardless of their gestational age. Nebraska, leading by example, is creating a culture of life by honoring these lives lost and acknowledging the families who grieve. For more information on this new Law or how to receive a Certificate, please visit the Nebraska DHHS webpage.
